Ingredients

1 cup Toor Dal Split Yellow Lentils
4 cups Water
1 tsp Turmeric powder
Salt to taste
1 tbsp Ghee or Oil
1 tsp Cumin seeds
1 tsp Mustard seeds
1 Small onion finely chopped
2 Garlic cloves minced
1 tsp Grated ginger
1-2 Green chilies
1/2 tsp Red chili powder
2-3 tbsp Chopped fresh coriander leaves

Directions

Step-1

Rinse the Toor Dal with water and soak for 30 minutes. Drain the water and add the dal to a pressure cooker with 4 cups of water. Add turmeric powder and salt and cook on medium heat for 3-4 whistles, or until the dal is soft and cooked.
In a pan, heat ghee or oil on medium heat. Add cumin seeds and mustard seeds and let them splutter.

Add chopped onions and sauté until they are translucent.
Add minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chilies (if using). Sauté for a minute until the raw smell of garlic is gone.
